Dr. Kolby Virgin, DVM
Lead Veterinarian & Practice Owner. Oregon State University, DVM, 2008.
Dr. Kolby Virgin brings more than 25 years of veterinary experience to Liberty Animal Hospital. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Oregon State University in 2008, after a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Brigham Young University in 2003, practiced in Portland for seven years, and has cared for pets in the Salem and Keizer area since 2015.
He decided at 13, dissecting worms and frogs in a life science class, that he would be a veterinarian. Born and raised in Bend, Oregon, he has lived in Salem since 2004.
His clinical interests are dentistry, soft tissue surgery, anesthesia and pain management, dermatology, Fear Free methods, preventive care, and geriatric and hospice care. He works with dogs and cats.
I'm also a neurodivergent veterinarian (AuDHD), and instead of treating that as something to work around, I've built my entire approach to practice on it.
For you and your pet, that means structured visits, close attention to detail, and clear, direct communication, so you always know what he found, what it means, and what comes next.
Outside the clinic he is busy with five kids, ages 5 to 21, and loves music and concerts, sports, church, traveling, scuba diving, and time with family.
Our Story
Liberty Animal Hospital was founded on Liberty Rd S by Dr. P, the founding veterinarian remembered in our logo and on our walls, with a simple hope: that every dog and cat in Salem and South Salem could receive careful medicine in a place that feels calm, respectful, and easy to understand. Today Dr. Kolby Virgin, DVM, leads the practice as an independently owned clinic where families are welcomed as partners, not rushed through a checklist.
We are a full-service day clinic for dogs and cats. From preventative wellness and dental care to soft-tissue surgery and on-site diagnostics, our team works to answer questions clearly and plan care that fits real life. Same-day urgent visits are available during open hours when our schedule allows.
When a pet needs something beyond what a day clinic can provide, we say so honestly and help you take the next step. Our goal is lasting trust: thoughtful exams, transparent options, and the kind of kindness you would want for your own family member.

Dr. Virgin earned his DVM from Oregon State University in 2008 after a BS in Animal Science from Brigham Young University in 2003. He was born and raised in Bend, Oregon, and his own pets are Booker and Nellie.

Our South Salem clinic in the Sunnyslope Center on Liberty Rd S includes exam rooms, surgery capability, an in-house laboratory, digital radiology, ultrasound, and an on-site pharmacy for Salem-area dog and cat families.
